I am a middle aged solo traveller. Well, mostly. Depends if the teenagers have run out of parties and want some of mummy’s credit card action. This might not sound that exciting or inspirational but when I found myself single in my early fourties after a 20 year relationship, I faced a challenging decision – do I wait for my Mr Darcey/Clooney/Right/Next or do I travel by myself?
Not known for my patience, I did it myself. My first solo trip was to Dubrovnik. I cried myself to sleep every night and ate mostly room service. But I did it. And I have never looked back.
Every journey has its difficult moments, every trip has pockets of loneliness. But I have seen and experienced the world and I intend to keep on going until the money runs out or I can physically not get to an airport. At which point, I will buy a caravan.
I was asked once what I put my excellent education down to. Three things:
Enthusiastic teachers. Books. Travel.
Curiosity is what opens our hearts to other lands and other people.
I would like to share this with you.
I hope you enjoy the journey.
Ina.
What a revelation finding your blogs – time to book some solo travel me thinks
